Massey Drops 6% on NPR Report FBI Investigating Bribery in Mine Explosion

Shares of Massey Energy (MEE) are down $2.59, or 6%, as NPR’s Howard Berkes and Dina Temple-Raston report the company is being investigated by the FBI in relation to possible bribery of officials with the Mine Safety and Health Administration, citing anonymous sources.

The allegations are in relation to the death of 29 miners in the disaster at the firm’s Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia earlier this month.

The FBI declined to comment and Massey said it is not aware of the allegations.
