5 Best Cheap Stocks To Buy Right Now

About a third of American adults have high LDL cholesterol -- that's the bad kind -- but less than half of adults with high LDL seek treatment, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I smell an investment opportunity.

There's just one problem: Generics abound
While there's an opportunity to increase the market for cholesterol drugs, it's likely going to come from generic drugs. Both Merck's (NYSE: MRK  ) Zocor and Pfizer's (NYSE: PFE  ) Lipitor are available as cheap generics.

Sure, the generic-drug companies could benefit from increasing demand, but the products are just a small portion of their overall revenue. Buying for their copycat versions of Zetia and Lipitor isn't exactly an investment thesis.

AstraZeneca's (NYSE: AZN  ) Crestor, which is in the same class as Zocor and Lipitor, is still under patent protection, but having to compete with generics is putting pressure on sales. Pfizer had the same issue with U.S. sales of Lipitor when generic versions of Zocor were introduced. Crestor will remain a megablockbuster for some time, but I wouldn't buy AstraZeneca for it.

The hottest big-bank stock of late has been Bank of America (BAC). Since hitting $4.99 in December 2011, the stock has soared 139%, to $11.94. Bank of America is slowly working through the disastrous results of a decade of acquisitions, which culminated in the 2008 purchase of Countrywide Financial Corp. The acquisition of the troubled mortgage lender put BofA on the wrong end of massive loan losses and a seemingly endless stream of litigation filed by everyone from shareholders to the Justice Department. However, even after paying the Federal National Mortgage Association $2.7 billion late last year as part of another legal settlement, the bank posted earnings for all of 2012 that were nearly three times higher than those of the previous year.

Strong results and the belief that BofA's woes are finally winding down have driven the stock's ascent. But don't look for it to keep advancing at the same rate. Morford thinks the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank's shares will hit $14 within a year. The stock sells for 12 times predicted 2013 earnings of 99 cents per share. That seems pricey for a bank stock, but it looks fair in light of expected annual earnings growth of 19% over the next few years. BofA shares yield an inconsequential 0.3%.

It has a market cap of $37.77B and a P/E ratio of 6.80. Ken Fisher invested over $400 million in FCX shares.

Freeport-McMoRan is down to about 40% of its 2011 high. Just like the entire gold market, the company based out and by early September began to make bullish moves. I suspect Freeport-McMoRan will grow as much as 70% when the 50-day moving average moves above the 200-day moving average.

Jefferies downgraded Alcoa (AA) and has expressed preference for Freeport-McMoRan demonstrating some of the benefits of the QE3. Along with this, operating activities are up and there was a vast improvement in accounts receivables from Q1 to Q2.

I like Freeport-McMoRan because it is an industry leader, drawing investments most likely from QE3, and an improvement of assets will lead to a substantial growth both as a short- and long-term investment.

When this company talked about lofty EPS for 2015, initially the street was skeptical especially after IBM reported a blah quarter soon after the expectations were laid out. I now think the company has $20 earnings per share capabilities out three years and that $13 is doable for 2011. You keep the multiple the same and you get a $169 stock. I think it does just that. This one's cheap, way too cheap and it will be cheap next year, too, but on a bigger earnings base which is how it can get to my price target.

IBM. Emerging markets are a big growth driver for this computer systems and software provider. Not only that, Resendes says, IBM has "a bullet-proof balance sheet that will allow it to weather the current storm and position it for superior growth and profitability in the long term." He thinks the stock, which recently traded at $93, is worth $120 a share: ''There are some obvious companies that offer much bigger discounts, but you have to incorporate the safety factor. You're getting a premium company here that's a good spot to be in within the tech space."

International Business Machines (IBM) -- our aggressive pick for the year -- is one of the world's most dominant technology companies, with annual revenues of $105 billion and net income of $16 billion.

Advisors' Opinion:

Parker Hannifin (PH) operates in a broadly diversified engineering industry with peers such as General Electric (GE) and 3M Company (MMM). Its products serve aerospace, commercial, mobile and industrial markets.

The 2011 fiscal year was stellar for Parker. An all time record of $12.3 billion in sales was reached, a 23.5% increase. Net income increased a whopping 90%.

The common stock currently trades at a price to earnings ratio of 10.5, below the industry average of 14.8 and historical average of 14. Price to book ratio is 2.02 with price to cash flow being 7.3.

Making comparisons in a broadly diversified industry is difficult, since products and service offerings vary greatly between businesses. Therefore, the peer company’s business lines and products were used as the main selection criteria for peer analysis.
