Nokia Sue Apples; Alleges iPhone, iPad Infringe Five Patents

Nokia (NOK) this morning said it has sued Apple (AAPL) in federal court for the Western District of Wisconsion – Wisconsin? – alleging the iPhone and iPad 3G infringe five Nokia patents.

Nokia says the patents relate to “enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space, allowing smaller and more compact devices.”

“Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in mobile devices” Paul Melin, General Manager, Patent Licensing at Nokia, said in a statement. “We have taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia’s innovation.”

AAPL this morning is down $10.62, or 4.3%, to $235.63.
