LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) � Research In Motion Ltd. shares moved slightly higher Friday evening, extending dayside gains likely fueled by speculation about the future of the BlackBerry maker.
Research In Motion shares RIMM �rose 0.3% to $14.42 in active trading. The shares closed the regular session up 6.9%. BGC analyst Colin Gillis said there was talk that Samsung Electronics may make a minority investment in the Canada-based company, and perhaps make new phones based on RIM�s new operating system. RIM shares remain in the red on a 12-month basis as they�ve lost about 75%.
Ahead of the late-trading session, U.S. stocks finished mostly lower after an index of consumer confidence unexpectedly fell in March. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA �fell 20 points to 13,232.62. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP �lost 1 point to end at 3,055.26, while the S&P 500 Index SPX �picked up 0.1% at 1,404.17.
