Billionaire Warren Buffett is certainly a man of many financial talents, as the success of his company Berkshire Hathaway attests. But some of his gifts, other than financial, are perhaps not so well known. However, for the Chinese people, who know him as an investor in their automaker BYD Co. Ltd., that obscurity is about to come to an end for his musical skills. Buffett has recorded a music video, in which he sings and plays guitar, that will be played as part of the Chinese New Year celebration.
Reuters reported that Buffett's video will be broadcast both on the website of Chinas Network Television, CNTV.cn, and in a condensed version on China Central Television. The broadcast will take place on Jan. 23, the first day of Chinese New Year, according to state news agency Xinhua, which cited Wang Pingjiu, a production executive for the broadcast.
Wang was quoted saying at a news conference, "We all know that Buffett is good at investment, but few knew he also did well in singing."
Buffett, whose second son Peter Buffett is a longtime Emmy-winning recording artist and philanthropist in his own right, with a musical career that spans nearly 30 years, will reach billions of Chinese in the broadcast, which is the most-watched event of the year. It runs some five hours in length, heavily scripted and censored, with huge numbers of dancers and punctuated by comedy skits.
