Paulson Adds Lots more Citigroup

Today was a prominent day to scour federal filings for clues as to what mutual funds and banks bought and sold during the fourth quarter.

Dow Jones Newswires’s Joseph Checkler notes hedge fund manager John Paulson bought 206.7 million shares of Citigroup (C) in Q4 for a total of more than half a billion shares, making Paulson one of the top five holders of the stock.

Citi shares closed up 13 cents, or 4%, at $3.31.

Paulson also added small positions in Wells Fargo (WFC), JP Morgan Chase (JPM) and recorded a total of $700 million in Capital One Financial (COF).
