California’s Santa Clara County board of supervisors today approved the U.S.’s first ban on distributing toys with meals at restaurants, the Mercury News’s Tracy Seipel reports.
The law specifically prohibits restaurants from giving away toys with meals unless the meals meet nutritional guidelines.
Seipel writes that the County hopes to cause other districts to take up the charge the way it started the push to put calories on menus.
The ordinance is to go to a final vote on May 11.
McDonald’s (MCD) shares are down 19 cents at $70.34.
